Adolescent Program

The Memorial Hermann Prevention and Recovery Center (PaRC) Adolescent Program provides comprehensive treatment for adolescents ages 13 to 17 suffering with primary substance abuse dependency as well as those struggling with co-occurring psychiatric disorders. The basic goals of the treatment program are to help the patient and family establish recovery and learn the skills to live effectively as the teen establishes abstinence-based sobriety.

"What sets our program apart?"

What sets the PaRC apart from other treatment facilities is what we offer to our adolescents. We offer:

Family Centered Care- An extensive family program; 3 days of education, counseling, and empowering family members in their recovery program.

Teen Issues Group- PaRC adolescent program knows that teens face peer pressure and a myriad of social pressures. We maintain a commitment to empowering these adolescents as leaders amidst their peers.

Relationships in Recovery Group- Our program commits to educating our patients on the establishment of safe, healthy, and recovery-centered standards for relationships -with themselves, their spirituality, and others.

Behavioral Management- The PaRC Adolescent Program will manage patient’s behaviors through positive reinforcement standards. Patients will gain privileges through our incentive-based system. Privileges such as game room access and extra free time will be earned upon patients exhibiting positive behaviors.

Leadership Committee- A component of our behavior management system will be serving on our Leadership Committee. This committee is peer lead an Affirmations Group, and the Night Reflections Group which will be done under staff supervision. The PaRC understands the importance of empowering youth to be leaders, and we are committed to setting positive standards for ways for them to do so.

Education- The PaRC Adolescent program maintains a strong commitment to the education of our patients. Upon admission, patients will be enrolled in our on-site, TEA accredited curriculum through Southwest Schools. Our adolescent patients will receive a high quality of academics while focusing on their recovery in treatment.

Sober Peer Group- The PaRC adolescent program maintains collaboration with community resources in order to maximize the support our patients receive. We believe that treatment is not merely about establishing change today, but more importantly for an adolescent’s lifetime. Our program has established relationships with area alternative peer groups in an effort to ensure that our patients get as much exposure to sober peers, not only for sponsorship and leadership, but also as a part of their discharge planning. These alternative peer groups will also host 12-step meetings at the PaRC 6 days a week.

Check-In Group- This group will begin each day of treatment at the PaRC Adolescent Program wherein patients will have an open forum to set goals, express their feelings candidly, and get their needs met with their peers and staff.

FWellness Focus- The PaRC Adolescent Program maintains a strong commitment to holistic recovery for our patients. We will have an on-site fitness coordinator, group education facilitated by a Registered Dietician in our Health Education Group, as well as a full-service fitness room and outdoor recreation area.

Quality of CD Programming- The PaRC Adolescent Program is a 12 step, abstinence-based program. We have an Alcoholics Anonymous “Big Book” study and focus on educating our patients on the disease of addiction in our Chemical Dependency education groups. In addition there is a weekly medical lecture by our medical director, and extensive time spent on relapse triggers and prevention.(With a staff of seasoned professionals; Masters level clinicians, LCDC’s , A.S.A.M. certified medical director, a Board Certified Adolescent Medicine Psychiatrist)

ADMISSION

Before admission into any of the substance abuse treatment or drug intervention at this recovery center, patients will undergo a full psychological and physical evaluation. Based on the results of the evaluation patients will be enrolled into a customized treatment program. Each patient receives a list of required items (Co-payment for prescription medications-cash or credit card, 5 days of casual clothing, personal hygiene items, money for vending machines etc) as well as a list of prohibited items (weapons in any form, cell phones or Blackberrys, alcohol or drugs etc). Because the only secure place for belongings is the hospital safe, patients are discouraged from bringing excessive amounts of money or jewelry onto the premises as the hospital will not accept any responsibility for loss or theft of these items.

YOUNG ADULT PROGRAM

With an increasing number of 18-24 year olds becoming susceptible to substance abuse, the PaRC has created a number of custom programs which may be more effective than those of other detox centers. Alcohol rehab and drug intervention for these individuals takes into account the fact that their psychological emotional and behavioral and cognitive abilities have been influenced in some way. The program involves areas such as life skills classes, spirituality groups and specialized therapy groups to aid the patient in making a full recovery.

This recovery center understands that families are a huge part of the healing process for patients. The PaRC ensures that parents and family members are actively involved in the program - offering both reassurance and healing to both parties. We believe that chemical dependency is a family disease and we are here to help.
