Prometa™ Alcohol and Drug Treatment Protocols

The PaRC is one of the premiere Prometa treatment providers in Houston, Texas. Prometa is a treatment plan for alcohol, cocaine and methamphetamine dependence overseen by a doctor. Prometa may be appropriate at any stage of recovery, ranging from detoxification to maintenance of abstinence, the period where the alcohol or substance dependent person may struggle with ongoing cravings. Memorial Hermann Prevention and Recovery Center (PaRC) has license rights to use the Prometa treatment protocols.
Prometa involves taking prescription medications and nutritional supplements over a period of about a month. For most people, the start of treatment only requires a brief 2-3 day in-patient (hospital) stay. Continuing care, also known as aftercare, is also encouraged (e.g., counseling, group therapy, etc.).

Treatment is designed to meet a spectrum of patient needs

Physiological:
  • Medications in Prometa target chemical receptors in the brain and nerves impacted by alcohol and substance dependence.
Nutritional:
  • Nutritional supplements help replace some of the important vitamins diminished in alcohol and substance dependent persons.
Psychological:
  • Prometa encourages participation in continuing care programs.
The Prometa™ treating physician must make the treatment decision for each individual patient regarding appropriateness of using Prometa during the detoxification, or any other stage, of alcohol, cocaine or methamphetamine dependence.
